Frye's book ANATOMY OF CRITICISM is a formidable work, analyzing how most western narrative has evolved from mythic structures that he traces from the Greeks and the Bible through Dante, Milton, Shakespeare, the modern novel, and up to classic Hollywood screenplays. I do not believe that analyzing mythic structures is parallel to forgetting their "fictiveness," but maybe I am missing something. But if Kermode is anything like the kind of critic Frye was, I should be delighted to read him. Thanks for posting this tribute, and for recommending his book. One way certainly to keep this sort of criticism alive is to "post in in the blogosphere!"Anna Billerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09715596939310896657noreply@blogger.com
